A sponsor of the Louvre, DS AUTOMOBILES is supporting the exhibition that opens its doors to the public today: A dream of Italy: the Marquis Campana’s collection.

A major event in the museum’s autumn/winter programming, this unprecedented retrospective brings together five hundred works including many masterpieces. If it tells the story of a passionate man, an insatiable collector and a lover of beauty, it is above all a journey through time in search of the diversity and richness of Italian cultural heritage.

DS Automobiles aims to highlight the expertise of these often little-known artists with whom it shares the values of excellence and boldness, an avant-garde spirit and the desire to offer the world a different perspective.

Among the cultural events not to be missed is the exhibition A dream of Italy: the Marquis Campana’s collection. Presented at the Louvre until 18 February 2019, it offers an unprecedented retrospective of the legendary Campana collection, the largest private collection of art objects in the 19th century. Organised by the Louvre museum in collaboration with the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, it is sponsored by DS Automobiles.

"DS AUTOMOBILES has been a sponsor of the Louvre for four years and provides yearly support to the museum for exhibitions highlighting an artist as well as a collection. Each of these exhibitions tells a unique story of a human adventure, a dream, an ambition. They all demonstrate that the beauty, excellence, know-how, boldness and avant-garde spirit are sources of emotions that have not faded despite the passage of time. The exhibition A dream of Italy: the Marquis Campana’s collection is an excellent demonstration of this," said Yves Bonnefont, Chief Executive Officer of DS Automobiles.

For the first time since its dispersal in 1861, an exhibition is providing a complete overview of the private collection of Giampietro Campana (1808 – 1880). It brings together five hundred works - Terra cotta, ceramics, marbles, paintings, jewellery, bronzes, sculptures, majolica - including many masterpieces such as The Sarcophogus of the Spouses and Paolo Uccello’s The Battle of San Romano.

This exhibition, A dream of Italy: the Marquis Campana’s collection is a journey through time in search of the diversity and richness of Italian cultural heritage. It also tells the story of a man with remarkable charisma, an insatiable collector, and a passionate lover of beauty. In addition, the exhibition sheds light on how Giampietro Campana developed his collection and how he presented it.

If the end of this artistic promenade is tinged with the tragic in light of the dispersal of the works, the Campana collection has had a major influence on European artistic culture. Indeed, many artists, particularly in the field of silversmithery, have been inspired by the collection.

You can visit the exhibition now in the Napoleon Hall of the Louvre museum.

This exhibition will also be presented in spring 2019 in Roma at the Capitoline Museums and then in St Petersburg at the State Hermitage Museum from 19 July to 20 October 2019.
